Copiapo, Chile – A T-130 boring machine on Saturday, opened the way to salvation for the 33 miners trapped underground in Chile, from the collapse mining site that occurred on August 5th. Rescuers were able to reach the compartment where the miners are sheltered, after drilling only of 630 meters, instead of the expected 700 meters.
Rescue workers are confident that they are able to begin the final stages of the relief operation, lifting the miners to the surface, with the help of three specially developed capsules, as early as October 12th.
Once the miners are brought to the surface, and finally get to experience the light of day for the first time in more than two months, they will immediately be examined by doctors. They will be taken to a field hospital set up near the mine, just a case someone needs immediate attention from a doctor. After stabilizing their health, they will then be transported to a hospital in Copiapo, the administrative center of the Atacama region.
