At least 64 people were killed and 219 others injured in a dozen attacks and bombings in Iraq, of which four were against police stations in eight different provinces.
According to police sources, the attack with the greatest number of victims targeted the central police station located in Al Kut, the capital of the Wasit province, 180 kilometers south of Baghdad. At least twenty-three people were killed and 60 wounded in that city by an explosion of a suicide car bomb which targeted the police headquarters.
In another similar suicide bombing, committed against another police center located in the neighborhood of Cairo, in northeastern Baghdad, 15 people were killed and 58 wounded. The blast also caused significant vehicle damages in the vicinity of the blast.
Also, another car bomb detonated near a police station, but this one in the city of Karbala, and six people were killed and four were injured, including two policemen.
The sources explained that the explosion took place in Al Nasser neighborhood in the south of Karbala, 110 kilometers south of Baghdad.
An Iraqi police source told Efe that yet another suicide bomber behind the wheel of a car bomb slammed into an Iraqi army patrol in central Falluja, in Anbar province, and killed a soldier and a civilian also wounding seven people.
In another bomb attack on a police patrol in the area, The Domiz area south of Kirkuk, 250 kilometers north of Baghdad, one civilian was killed and eight wounded.
In addition, three people were killed in Mosul, capital of Nineveh, and another 13 were wounded in the blast caused by the explosion of a car full of explosives in the New Mosul neighborhood, west of the city.
Also in Baghdad’s northern neighborhood of Al Kazimiyah, three people were killed and 12 others injured when a car bomb exploded near the Plaza Al Adan.
In addition, an Iraqi police officer was killed and two policemen were wounded in an attack by a group of armed men against a police checkpoint in al-Baya neighborhood in southwest Baghdad.
Eight other civilians were injured when two bombs explode in central Baghdad neighborhood of Al Qarra and Haifa Street.
In the city of Al Maqdadiya, 40 miles northeast of Baquba, capital of Diyala province, an unknown group with an attempted car bomb attack on the governor’s office and killed three people. The attack wounded 17 people, including 12 police officers.
Police imposed a curfew in this area until further notice to prevent more attacks. The wave of attacks comes as the United States withdrew its troops from Saudi Arabia.
